A Deccan Odyssey of Wild Maharashtra

A safe haven for nature lovers, Maharashtra is home to a large number of national parks and wildlife sanctuaries. These national parks are home to many rare species of flora and fauna. The week long 'Maharashtra Wild Trail', beginning from Mumbai, will take you on an enchanting ride across Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary and Tadoba Tiger Reserve. Other destinations that you will visit include Ajanta Caves and Ellora Caves, famous as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The Deccan Odyssey luxury train takes in some of the best sights of Maharastra, and also visits Goa. During the journey, you'll be treated to a combination of alluring beaches, history, forts, and architecture. You'll travel through the night to different locations, and have the day to explore them.

The Deccan Odyssey reflects Indian royalty. Every single carriage is inspired by forts and places of interest.The train has 21 coaches,out of which 13 are for passengers. It is similar to a luxury hotel with presidential suites, spa, gymnasium, business facilities, fine dining restaurants and bars.

In this journey we will be covering the following places - Mumbai - Ajanta Caves - Nagzira - Tadoba - Aurangabad and back to Mumbai.

Mumbai (Arrival): Day 01

Mumbai (Arrival): Day 01

On arrival at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminal in the evening, board the train for a captivating voyage through Maratha heartland. Dinner and overnight stay on board as the train chugs its way towards Ajanta Caves.

Ajanta Caves (sightseeing): Day 02

Ajanta Caves (sightseeing): Day 02

Upon your arrival at the Jalgaon Railway Station, leave by road for Ajanta Caves, a popular UNESCO World Heritage Site. A short bus ride will take you to the Ajanta Caves known for housing Buddhist Caves. These ancient murals and sculptures depict the life of Buddha. In the evening, depart for Gondia where some wildlife thrill is awaits you.

Upon your arrival in Gondia, leave by road to Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary, also known as the "Green Oasis". In the afternoon, enjoy a game safari in the national park. Later in the evening return back to the train for dinner and overnight stay.

Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary: Day 04

Early morning, proceed on an adventure trip to the Nagzira Sanctuary. During the first half of the day 4, explore the length and breadth of this wildlife sanctuary. In the afternoon, board the train and continue your journey towards the famous Tadoba Wildlife Sanctuary. Dinner and overnight stay onboard the train.

Tadoba Tiger Reserve: Day 05

Tadoba Tiger Reserve: Day 05

On arrival at the Tadoba Tiger Reserve, spend an adventurous day with morning and afternoon safaris in the reserve. The Tadoba Tiger Reserve spans over an area of 625.4 square kilometers. It is arguably one of India's most exciting and best protected tiger reserve. Later, return back to the train for dinner and overnight stay.

Ellora Caves: Day 06

Ellora Caves: Day 06

In the morning, embark on a sightseeing tour of Ellora Caves, a famous UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Ellora Caves are a perfect blend of Hindu, Buddhist and Jain artistic creations. Besides, you will also visit Bibi-ka-Maqbara, a replica of the Taj Mahal. Post sightseeing, return to the train for dinner and night stay.

Aurangabad: Day 07

Aurangabad: Day 07

In the morning, commence on a sightseeing tour of Aurangabad. Explore the famous sights of Aurangabad including a Himroo Factory. Himroo Fabric is a famous handicraft that is used to make Paithani Sarees and shawls. The factory is located near the Zaffar Gate in the old town of Aurangabad. Later, return back to the train for the homebound journey.

Upon your arrival in Mumbai, after breakfast, de-board the train at the Chattrapati Shivaji Terminus, where your journey comes to an end.
