1. Ladakh's Contradicting Beauty

The land where scale takes on a new definition. Flying to Ladakh, your perspective of beauty will change from the moment the flight charts the mountain route and all you see are mountains, partially covered in snow, partially barren and a some with scarce vegetation. The lands here are extreme, somewhere the horizon meets the land and stars are at a touching distance. Reality gives way to enchanting blue waters, mystic monasteries, hypnotic roads and magnetic hills! Visit this place in India at least once in your lifetime and come back a changed person.

2. Munnar's Tea Carpets

Green, light green, verdant green and so many other hues of green; for as far as the eye can see. Smooth rolling hills of tea gardens, appearing from the distance as if it were in-fact a giant carpet that tempts you to lie down on it. Twisting and winding roads, cloud-kissed valleys, clean air and sparkling streams. Man can ask for little else! Make a trip to Munnar, the land of tea and be refreshed and awakened.

3. Meghalaya's Living Bridges

Two benefits in one trip! Make a trip to Cherrapunji, the region that receives the highest rainfall in the world, and be mesmerised by its natural abundance and beauty. It deserves to be on the list of places you must visit before you die, especially as you get to see the magical living tree bridges here. Mimicking science fiction is the village Nongriat's natural bridges, created by the Khasi tribesmen. The roots of rubber trees are trained in a manner to naturally create bridges. Stunning idea and even better execution, see it to believe. One such bridge is said to be over 200 years old!

4. Assam's Floating Island

Assam has many places you should visit at least once before you die. But special mention must be made of the fast disappearing river island of Majuli. It is considered to be the largest of its kind in the world and presents a stunning sight. The inhabitants of the islands also live a life largely untouched by modernity. The locals are popular for their arts and crafts and the islands are hot spots for biodiversity. Erosion being a main problem, much of the island faces the threat of extinction in another 15-20 years.

5. Karnataka's Town of Ruins

The town of ancient ruins, the picture that must represent a ghost town, instead showcases vibrant art and culture of a once lively empire. Hampi, the once prosperous city of the Vijayanagara Empire is now a place of exotic ruins. Many temples, monolith sculptures, and stunning examples of architectural brilliance stand against a backdrop of golden rocks, interspersed with greenery and the River Tungabhadra. It is easy to forget the plastic present and step back in time to when poetry was carved in stone. A must-visit place in India.

6. Rajasthan's Pink City

One of the desert cities with a rather interesting flavour is Jaipur, the 'Pink City' of Rajasthan. It has featured as a popular place to visit in various travel magazines and even been named as the best place to visit in Asia. Major attractions include the pink Hawa Mahal, the Jal Mahal, City Palace, Amer Fort, Jantar Mantar, etc. Jaipur also is known for its stunning heritage hotels. In fact the presidential suite at Raj Palace Hotel was listed as one of the most expensive hotels in the world.

7. Maharashtra's Lonar Lake

Created by a meteor impact many thousand years back, the cavity in the earth's face is now one of the most stunning lakes in the country. A saline soda lake, the Lonar Lake situated in the Buldana district of Maharashtra is oval in shape and is a rather interesting spot of bio-diversity. The lake is surrounded by low-rise hills, trees of various varieties, a region of barren land and the aquatic and bird life that is surprisingly plenty despite the seemingly inhospitable environment. There are many environmental threats being faced by the lake in the present day and it is highly recommended that you quickly make a visit to this stunning place of natural beauty.

8. India's Paradise on Earth

Kashmir is not know as the 'Paradise on Earth' for no reason, few places on the face of earth have been as generously endowed in terms of natural beauty as Kashmir. The backdrop of snow-clad mountains, lower valleys of lush green pastures and tall trees, lakes, rivers, streams, charming sights of wooden homes and groups of shepherds with their sheep, will leave a lasting mark on you and tempt you to return to the valley time and again. The various picturesque valleys of Kashmir include Gulmarg, Sonamarg and Aru Valley to name a few. Get a taste of the 'Kashmiriyat' at-least once before you die.

9. Himachal Pradesh's Deodar Forest

Himachal Pradesh is a nature lover's paradise and a winter paradise with many snow covered destinations such as Kullu, Manali and Shimla. The topographical variety and beauty is clearly visible as you travel the roads of the state. Be it in daylight or the night, certain aspects of the natural beauty here is sure to make you believe in magic such as the rivers, the moonlight shining on white pebbles and the mysterious forests of Deodar trees. Make sure to explore these enchanting forests at least one in your lifetime.

The Andaman and Nicobar islands are one of the less explore places of India. The stunningly beautiful islands are made even more attractive by the lack of tourist crowds.
