Due to extreme climatic conditions, both summers and monsoons are not ideal to visit Thekkady. However, wildlife enthusiasts and those who are into wildlife photography should visit the place during summer to enjoy the vibrant animal life. Winter makes the perfect time to visit Thekkedy. Winter is ideal for bird-watching since during this season Thekkedy becomes a seasonal home to many migratory birds.

Summer

Summer season starts in Thekkady from the month of March and is prolonged till late May. This season is characterized by intense heat. Temperature during summer reaches a maximum of 36°C. Though summers are not recommended to pay a visit to Thekkady, it is the ideal time when animals are spotted.

Monsoon

Monsoon rains start hitting Thekkady soon after the intense summer i.e. from early June. The place enjoys extensive rainfall throughout the monsoon season, till September. Monsoon rains causes landslides in the region making it impossible to visit. Since incessant showers hinder outdoor activities such as trekking and sightseeing, monsoons should be preferable avoided.

Winter

Winter chill starts in Thekkady as early as October and is extended till late February. The climate is mild and pleasant during this season and the temperatures might drop to a minimum of 15°C. This is the ideal time to visit the region as travelers can explore the place extensively.
