    Sem Mukhem Temple

    Sem Mukhem Temple is perched at an elevation of 2903 m on a hilltop. It is dedicated to the snake god, Nag Raja, and holds special significance for the local people. Tourists can reach the temple by a trek of 7 km from Khamba Khal, which is connected to Tehri by a 64 km long motorable road.

    Accommodation facilities are provided to the guests by the Pandas or the temple priests of the Mukhem village, which is located at a distance of 2 km from Khamba Khal. An uphill trek of 5 km from this village leads to the Sem Mukhem Temple.

  • 02Khatling Glacier

    Khatling Glacier

    Khatling Glacier serves as the source of the river, Bhilangana. This glacier is encompassed by the snow capped peaks of the Jogin Group, the Sphetic Pristwar, the Barte Kauter, the Kirti Stambh and the Meru.

    A gravel mud wall has been naturally created on either side of the glacier by moraines, which basically refer to the accumulation of unconsolidated rock and soil. Trekking to the Khatling Glacier starts at Ghuttu, which is well-connected to Dehradun, Tehri, Mussoorie and Rishikesh by motorable road.

    The trek route covers a distance of around 45 km through villages, deep Kharsao forests and verdant meadows. Tourists can halt for camping at different spots in the Valley of Bhilangna. The camping accessories can be arranged from Rishikesh, Tehri and Dehradun in advance.

    Buda Kedar

    Buda Kedar is famous for its Shiva temple, located at the convergence of the rivers, Bal Ganga and Dharam Ganga. This shrine is connected to Tehri by a motorable road, covering a distance of 59 km. According to legends, the Pandavas, the kings and the warriors of the great epic, ‘Mahabharata’, met Saint Balkhily at Bhrigu Parvat, while they were searching for Lord Shiva after the war of Kurukshetra.

    The saint directed the Pandavas to meet an old man, meditating at the site of the confluence of the two rivers. However, the old man disappeared as soon as the Pandavas reached that place. This was followed by the appearance of a Shivling at the same spot.

    The Shivling at Buda Kedar is reported to be the biggest of its kind, in the northern part of India. The village of Buda Kedar appeals to spiritual souls and nature lovers alike. The place is a paradise for varieties of mountain birds that can be spotted here in their full natural glory.
