Tirukkolakka Shabdapureesar Temple gets its name because it is located in Tirukkolakka, and the presiding deity is Lord Shiva in his Shabdapureesar form. This is the 15th Tevara Stalangal where Shiva in the form of Shabdapureesar is worshipped. There is another shrine in the temple where Goddess Osai Kodutha Nayaki is worshipped. This shrine covers almost three quarters of an acre.
The Surya Tirtham or the Sun pilgrim site lies right in front of the chief shrine of Lord Shabdapureesar. This tirtham is the site of the Tirumullaivayal Utsavam which is celebrated by thousands of devotees during the month of Chithra.
