Tara Devi Temple, located at a distance of around 11 km from Shimla, is one of the popular religious centres in Shoghi. Devoted to Goddess Tara, this temple is situated on the Tara Parvat or mountain. An important goddess for Tibetan Buddhists, Goddess Tara is counted among one of the nine sisters of the Hindu Goddess of feminine empowerment, Durga.It is believed that this temple is around 250 years old and that the statue of the goddess was brought here by a King of the Sen Dynasty from West Bengal. The wooden statue of Goddess Tara is installed in the temple according to the Vaishnav tradition. During the Hindu festival of Sharad Navratri, special ‘pooja’ or prayers is organised in the premises of the temple.
