    Rukmini Nati

    Rukmini Nati is the ruins of the palace where Princess Rukmini, the daughter of King Bhisma and the wife of Lord Krishna, lived. The hill fort is believed to be built around 14 or 15th century AD. The fort, which was earlier a palace, is located about 12 km from Roing. Though in ruins, the fort gives the visitors an insight into the beautiful architecture of those times.

    Mehao Lake

    The clear blue water of the Mehao Lake is a part of the Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary and is one of the major attractions of the region. This tranquil lake is surrounded by natural beauty. It is a low-nutrient lake and hence there are no fishes in the lake. It is situated at an altitude of approximately 3000 ft and the area is rich in varied flora and fauna.

    Visitors can spot a large number of ducks and boating facilities are also available at the site. It is a delight for birdwatchers. It covers an area of 4 sq km. Trekking can be done on the beautiful path leading to the way.

  • 04Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary

    Nestled amidst lush greenery and vast mountain ranges, the Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary is a treat to the visitors' eyes, while it also proves to be a very useful research ground for scientists, biologists and botanists alike. The area also has lakes, along with rich flora and fauna.

    There are four main divisions of forests in this sanctuary :- Tropical Evergreen Forests, Sub-Tropical and Temperate Forests, Temperate Broad Leaf Forest and Temperate Conifer Forest. These forests include an interesting array of vegetation, which provide shelter for different species of birds, animals and insects, making the Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary a beautiful tourist attraction.

    Some of the important species of mammals inhabiting this Sanctuary are tiger, leopard, clouded leopard, fishing cat, jungle cat, spotted linsang, wild dog, yellow bellied weasel, burmes ferret badger, common mongoose, Malay treeshrew, sambar, barking deer, Indian elephant, Assamese macaque, slow loris, Himalayan black bear, Indian porcupine, red panda, musk deer, snow leopard, goral and more.

    The birds found in the Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary include goosander, large cormorant, cotton teal, Himalayan pied kingfisher, blue throated barbet, Japanese awfinch, red headed laughing thrust, great pied hornbill, black napped oriole, blue napped pitta, large racket-tailed drongo, spotted short-tailed wrenbabbler, green magpie and so on.

    One can also find various poisonous and non-poisonous snakes at this Sanctuary like the black krait, banded kraft, cobra naja naja, king cobra, pit viper, python, the whip snake, common Indian black snake, Himalayan cat snake, green whip snake and more. Apart from the above listed species, the Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary also has fish and butterflies in abundance.

    Bhismaknagar

    Bhismaknagar is a popular archaeological and heritage site of Arunachal Pradesh. The place gains its popularity due to the Bhismaknagar Fort which is around 30 km from Roing. This hill fort was built out of burnt bricks during the 8th century and is one of the oldest archaeological sites in the state.

    The place is also a holy heritage site for the Idu Mishmis who belong to the tribal communities in Arunachal Pradesh. Excavations at the site have found a number of artefacts from the fort like terracotta plaques, terracotta figurines, decorative tiles and potteries.
