Ri Bhoi is one of the 11 districts of Meghalaya with its district headquarters at Nongpoh.Ri-Bhoi district is second least populated district of Meghalaya after South Garo Hills. The district was carved out of the East Khasi Hills.

One of the star attractions of Ri-Bhoi tourism is the Umiam Lake, popularly known as Bara Pani. The man-made lake has a major hydro-electricity dam. The lake is also popular for its sports facilities. Tourists can enjoy kayaking, water cycling and boating here. the Lum Nehru Park is also popular among picnickers. Other Ri-Bhoi tourism attractions are Lum Sohpetbneng, Diengiei Peak and Dwarksuid.
The best season to visit Ri Bhoi is during the summer months when the weather is dry and travelling becomes more easy.
Nongpoh, the district headquarters of Ri-Bhoi district is located 55 kilometres from Shillong. It is the in-between stoppage on the Guwahati-Shillong highway. National Highway 40 crosses through a vast area of Ri-Bhoi district. Tourists can easily reach Nongpoh from Guwahati on private tourist vehicles as well as buses.
