    Jhula Devi Temple

    Jhula Devi Temple, also known as the Jhoola Devi Temple, is a popular religious site situated at a distance of 7 km from the town of Ranikhet. Devoted to the Hindu Goddess Durga, this temple was built in the 8th century.

    According to a Hindu mythology, this temple was constructed to seek Goddess Durga’s protection for the wild animals of the place. A shepherd was advised by Goddess Durga in his dreams to excavate Her idol. This temple was constructed on the spot where the idol was found.

    The temple has beautifully carved holy bells, and the sound of these bells is clearly audible from a distance. Pilgrims believe that the Goddess Jhula Devi fulfils the wishes of the devotees who pray in this temple. This site also offers the opportunity to visit the Rama Temple, which is located in the vicinity.

    Located in the picturesque valley of the River Ramganga, Dwarahat offers panoramic sceneries to the visitors. This place was the capital of the Katyuri Kingdom in earlier times. It also served as the power centre for the rulers of the Katyuri Kingdom in the 16th century.

    The annual Syalde-Bikhauti festival organised here in the month of April adds to its charm. Other important festivals of this place are Makar Sankranti, Basant Panchami, Olgia, Khatarua, Bat Savitri and Ganga Dusshera.
