    Mahant Ghasidas Museum

    Being one of the finest museums of the state of Chhattisgarh, the Mahant Ghasidas Museum is one of the popular tourist attractions of Raipur. It is located near the D. K Hospital in the city.

    The museum was built in 1875 by Raja Mahant Ghasidas. The two-storeyed structure was later renovated by Queen Jyoti Devi and her son Digvijay Das in the year 1953. It covers an area of about two hectares. The exhibits in the museum include specimens of weapons, ancient coins, inscriptions, sculptures and carvings, etc.

  • 02Doodhadhari Monastery

    Doodhadhari Monastery

    The monastery is located in the southern part of Raipur and is dedicated to Lord Rama. Built in the 17th century by King Jaitsingh, the monastery is a popular attraction of the region. It is located on the banks of the river Maharajbandh. There is also a temple close to the monastery.

    There is an intersting story behind the name of the monastery. The monastery is named after Swami Balbhadra Das who had only milk (translated as 'doodh' in Hindi) as his food. The temple has several beautiful murals that attract visitors. If you visit the state of Chhattisgarh, make sure you pay a visit to this monastery and temple located in Raipur.

    Vivekananda Sarovar

    This is an age old lake in Raipur, perhaps as old as the city itself. It is also called the Burha Lake which means the 'old lake'. It is also the largest lake in the whole of Raipur.

    There is a 37 ft high statue of Swami Vivekananda erected at the lake which has gained its place in the Limca Book of Records for being the largest model for a statue. At about 2.7 km away from the lake, there is an ashram dedicated to Swami Vivekananda which teaches about the ideologies of the Swami.

    Arang is an old city which is about 36 km from Raipur. The city is known for its ancient temples among which the popular ones are Bhandadeval Temple and Mahamaya Temple. Bhandadeval Temple is popular for its architecture. The temple has three huge idols of Jain Tirthankars which are made in black stone.

    Similarly, the Mahamaya Temple also has three big idols of the Jain Tirthankars and also has a huge stone with all the 24 Jain Tirthankars carved on it. The other important temples in the city are Danteshwari Temple, Chandi Maheshwari Temple, Panchamukhi Mahadev Temple and Panchamukhi Hanuman temple.
