The Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary, located on the Thiruvananthapuram-Ponmudi Road, is another must-see attraction in Ponmudi. It is situated 50 km northeast of Thiruvananthapuram and is easily accessible from the city. The area is hilly and is constitutive of several peaks.

Though initially started off as the Peppara Dam to facilitate drinking water supply, this place was declared a sanctuary in 1983. The Sanctuary is inhabited by a wide variety of animals including Tiger, Leopard, Sloth Bear, Elephant, Deer, Bonnet Macaque, Nilgiri Langur and Nilgiri Tahr.

Spread over an area of 53 sq km, this place attracts wildlife enthusiasts and ornithologists. The dam in Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary is quite a fascinating spot. Kerala Tourism Development Corporation together with State Forest Department and Kerala Water Authority has beautified the dam recently. Travelers can avail entertainment and leisure facilities to ensure that they get their best time while they are here.
