Pauri is a scenic tourist destination located at an altitude of 1650 m above sea level. This place serves as the district headquarters of the Pauri Garhwal district in Uttarakhand. Covered with deodar forests and located on the northern slopes of the Kandoliya Hills, this place offers mesmerising views to tourists. Tourists can also enjoy panoramic views of the snow-capped mountains, namely Bandarpunch, Jonli, Gangotri group, Nandadevi, Trishul, Chaukhamba, Ghori Parvat, Hathi Parvat, Swargarohini, Jogin Group, Thalaiya-Sagar, Kedarnath, Sumeru, and Neelkanth. The Alaknanda and Nayar are the prominent rivers of the district.

Tourist Places In And Around Pauri

This place is famous for various temples, viewing points, and picnic spots. Chaukhamba Viewpoint, overlooking the mighty Himalayan peaks and glaciers provide a treat for the eyes of the tourists. Khirsu is another worth-visiting tourist spot located at an elevation of 1700 m above sea level. Far away from the noisy city life, this is a tranquil spot where tourists can hear only the pleasant sounds of birds chirping. One can also visit Dhari Devi located at a distance of 16 km from Pauri. This is a pilgrimage centre devoted to Goddess Dhari. In addition, tourists can also visit the Kyunkaleshwar Mahadev Temple, which is an old shrine constructed by Adi Sankaracharya and dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Doodhatoli is a beautiful tourist location situated at an altitude of 3100 m above sea level. A number of shrines, namely Kandoliya Temple, Siddhibali Temple, Shankar Math, Keshori Math, and Jwalpa Devi Temple are worth-visiting spots of the destination. Tourists can also visit popular spots like Laldhang, Adwani, Tara Kund, Kotdwara, Bharat Nagar, and Srinagar. Places like Deval and Kanda offer an opportunity to visit a few ancient temples.

Angling and Cycling are popular activities in Pauri and swimming can be enjoyed too in the River Nayar.

How To Reach Pauri

Tourists can reach Pauri by air, rail, and road. The Jolly Grant Airport is the closest airbase located in Dehradun at a distance of 185 km form Pauri. Kotdwara is the closest railway station from where taxis can be hired to the destination. Pauri is connected to neighbouring cities, namely Rishikesh, Hardwar, Dehradun and Mussoorie, by buses.

The best time to travel the destination starts in the month of March and remains till November, as the weather remains pleasant during this entire period.

    There is no airport in the Pauri District; the Jolly Grant Airport of Dehradun serves as the nearest airbase located at a distance of 155 km from the district. International tourists can travel from Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi which is located at a distance of 300 km from Pauri. This airport is well connected to major cities of India by frequent flights. Taxis can be availed from the Jolly Grant Airport to Pauri at reasonable prices.
