Different Gurukuls, Nrityagram

Different gurukuls are visited by several tourists during their trip to Nrityagram, which is considered as the first contemporary gurukul in the country. One of the major artistic and cultural hubs in Karnataka, it was established in the year 1990 by the famous Odissi dancer, Protima Gauri Bedi. Nrityagram is a society of classical dancers settled in a remote area amidst nature. The place is known for some of the best group works in Odissi dance form.

Nrityagram has several mud houses, a beautiful temple, a yoga centre and many guest cottages. Tourists from all over make sure to visit the gurukuls, such as Odissi Gurukul, Mohiniattam Gurukul and Kathak Gurukul, present in Nrityagram. Apart from these dance forms, the gurukuls provide training in other Indian classical dance forms like Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali and Manipuri. The classes take place six days a week for eight hours per day and follow the old guru-shishya tradition.
