If you are looking for tropical wet evergreen forests you must visit Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary. Spread across an area of 111.19 sq km this sanctuary is unfolded between Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts of Assam Valley.

It is also close to the border of Arunachal Pradesh and also has World War II cemeteries along with the famous Stillwell Road. You will find mammals such as Chinese Pangolin, Stump-Tailed Macaque, Himalayan Black and Malayan Giant Squirrels to name a few.

Located 35 km from Tezpur, Nameri National Park falls under the Sonitpur District. The national park is spread across an area of about 200 sq km. It shares its northern boundary with Pakhui Wildlife sanctuary of Arunachal Pradesh.

Located on the foothills of the Lower Himalayas, the Nameri National Park is home to several species of flora and fauna. Elephants can be found in large numbers in the park while leopards, bisons, black bears, wild boars, capped langurs etc., also inhabit the sanctuary.

Birds such as hornbills, plovers, wood ducks, bee-eaters and babblers are also found here. There are several small rivers that flow within the park which tourists can enjoy. The Orang National Park is spread across 78 sq km in the Darrang and Sonitpur Districts. The Orang National Park is very similar to the Kaziranga National Park and is thus also known as the mini Kaziranga Park.

Both the parks have a similar landscape with marshes, streams and grasslands. The Great Indian One-Horned Rhinoceros can also be found in the Orang National Park. Orang National Park sees several migratory birds coming every year such as the White pelican, Adjutant stork, Shelduck, Mallard, Kingfisher and Woodpecker. The Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary derives its name from the hot springs found in the place. The Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Karbi Anglong District. It is a very small sanctuary covering an area of 6.05 km.

Apart from the hot springs, there are several waterfalls found in the sanctuary. Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary is home to Hillock gibbons and Golden langurs. Several other kinds of mammals, birds and reptiles can also be found in the wildlife sanctuary.

Tigers, Elephants, Gaurs, Hornbill, Python, Cobra and Monitor lizards can be found in the Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary. Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary is located 25 km from Golaghat and 65 km from Kaziranga National Park.

Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary is famous for being the second protected habitat of the Golden Langur. Charkashila was previously a reserve forest, but in the year 1994, it was declared as a wildlife sanctuary. It covers a total area of 45.50 sq km and its jurisdiction falls under two districts – namely of Dhubri and Kokrajhar district of Assam.

In the Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary, tourists can see as many as 273 species of birds apart from 14 different species of reptiles, 60 kinds of fish and 11 species of amphibians. There are two lakes in the wildlife sanctuary which add to the beauty of the place. They are called Dheer Beel and Diplai Beel, and they are located on the two sides of the sanctuary.

The nearest town to the wildlife sanctuary is Kokrajhar (6 km away) while the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport is 219 km from Chakrashila. Direct transport facility is available from the airport.

The Pabha Sanctuary is located in Lakhimpur district of Assam. The small sanctuary covering about 49 sq km, is also known as the Milroy Sanctuary. The Pabha Sanctuary has been specially created to protect the Asiatic Water Buffalo.

The Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary is home to the Hispid Hare and Pigmy Hog. The wildlife sanctuary is located in the Darrang district. Spread over only 26.22 sq km, the Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary is an ideal bhabar tract. Tourists can expect to see mammals such as Gaur, Elephant, Tiger, Small Indian Civet, Leopard, Jungle Cat, Porcupine, Chinese Pangolin, Himalayan Black Bear, Barking Deer apart from Pigmy Hog and Hispid Hare.

Located on the banks of the mighty Bramhaputra River, the Laikhowa Wildlife Sanctuary is part of the Laokhowa -Burachapori ecosystem. It falls under the administration of the Nagaon District of Assam. The Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary is a natural habitat of the Rhinoceros and the wild buffalo.

The Burachapori Wildlife Sanctuary lies in the southern banks of River Brahmaputra covering an area of 44.06 sq. kms. It falls in the Sonitpur District. The wildlife sanctuary is known for its rich eco-system which it shares with the Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary. In fact, these are the only two wildlife sanctuaries which are actually one entity but have different names.

The sanctuary is of wet alluvial grassland that is dotted with semi-evergreen forests. The Bengal Florican and the One-Horned Rhinoceros are the two prized species found in the Burachapori Wildlife Sanctuary. Tourists can also see tigers, wild buffalo, leopards, wild pigs and hog deer. Bherjan-Borajan-Padumoni Wildlife Sanctuary is a popular wildlife sanctuary among tourists visiting Assam. This wildlife sanctuary is spread across three blocks located in Tinsukia district of Upper Assam. Visitors are treated with the diverse flora and fauna. Slow Loris, Assamese Macaque, Pigtailed Macaque, Rhesus Macaque, Capped Langur, Hoolock Gibbon and Leopards are some of the animals that inhabit this wildlife sanctuary.

Bherjan-Borajan-Padumoni Wildlife Sanctuary wildlife sanctuary is 40 km drive from Mohanbari (Dibrugarh) Airport. It is easily accessible by road from Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts. The best time to visit this place would be between October and April.

Karbi Analong Wildlife Sanctuaries compose of the East Karbi Anglong Wildlife Sanctuary and North Karbi Anglong wildlife sanctuary. Both fall in the Karbi Anglong district council. Tiger, Elephant, Gaur, Sambar, Bears, Barking deer, Rhesus Macaque, Hoolock Gibbon, Wild Pigs, Lesser Cats etc are inhabitants of both the sanctuaries.

The East Karbi Anglong Wildlife sanctuary covers an area of 221.81 sq km. You will also see many species of the woodland bird in this sanctuary besides reptiles such as Python, Cobra, Monitor lizards, Hill tortoise etc. This sanctuary is one of the most well preserved in the state with the best time to visit being November to April.

It is well connected to the rest of the world with Johrat Airport being the nearest at 110 km. You can also reach here from Dimapur Airport and the LGBI Airport Guwahati.

The North Karbi Anglong Wildlife Sanctuary, is strategically located to the South of the Kaziranga National Park It serves as a haven for the animals of the Kaziranga National Park which migrate during the annual floods.

The North Karbi Anglong Wildlife Sanctuary is located about 90 km from the Jorhat Airport and Guwahati LGBI Airport which is about 220 km. The sancutary is about 205 km away from Diphu, the headquarters of the Karbi Anglong district. The best season to visit the Karbi Anglong Wildlife Sanctuaries is between November and April.

Spread across an area of 326.24 sq. km Borail Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the largest sanctuaries in Assam and is famous for Tropical Moist Evergreen and Semi-Evergreen Forests. Here, you will come across many species of mammals including Chinese pangolin, Flying Fox, Slow Loris, Stump-Tailed Macaque, Rhesus Macaque, Capped langur, Hoolock Gibbon and Himalayan Black Bear among others.

There are also many different species of birds including White-backed Vulture, Slender-Billed Vulture, White Cheeked Hill Partridge, and Mountain Bamboo Partridge etc. Reptiles found here include Rock Python, King Cobra, Brown Hill Tortoise, Asian Leaf Turtle and Monitor Lizard.

To reach this sanctuary you can catch a flight to Silchar (Kumbirgram) Airport which is only 40 km from the sanctuary. You can also travel here by road from the town of Karimganj which is also 40 km away. The best time to visit this sanctuary would be between the months of October and March.
