Ramkund, Nashik

The Ramkund Tank is one of the prime attractions in the region of Nashik. Constructed more than 300 years back, this tank dates back to 1696, when it was built by Chitarao Khatarkar. The pious tank stretches over a massive area of 27 m by 12 m. Legend has it that Lord Ram and his wife Sita bathed in this very tank, during the course of their exile.

Staunch Hindu believers immerse the ashes of a dead person in this tank for the soul to attain liberation or moksha. Many famous political figures like Indira Gandhi and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru have been immersed here. Ramkund attracts numerous worshippers who come to take a dip here. It is at a distance of 10 km from the Nashik bus stand.
