Kayarohanaswamy Temple, Nagapattinam

The Kayarohanaswamy Temple is also known as Neelayadakshi. It is one of the most popular ancient temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. Within the premises of the temple there are the idols of Lord Shiva and Goddess Neelayadakshi.

It is believed that Lord Shiva blessed Sage Pundari, and he attained salvation here. It is believed that the dead can receive salvation after life in this temple. The mortal remains of the dead are covered with a sacred cloth from the temple and rituals are conducted in this temple. This ritual is said to help the dead attain salvation.
