    Mukteshwar Temple, also known as the Shiva Temple and the Mukteshwar Dham, is a noted religious site located in Mukteshwar. The temple rests on a hilltop at an elevation of 7000 ft above sea level. This 350-year old temple is devoted to the Hindu God Shiva and holds immense religious significance for Hindus.

    The temple is enshrined with a white marble Shiva lingam and a yoni made of copper. The Shiva lingam is surrounded by several idols of other Hindu Gods and Goddess, namely Vishnu, Brahma, Ganesh, Hanuman, Nandi and Parvati. Tourists can reach the temple by climbing a series of winding steep stairs made of stones.

    Tourists can see a beautiful stone bungalow here, which was constructed by the British about a century ago. This bungalow is known as the Sitla Estate and tourists can avail lodging facilities here.

    The region of Sitla has been developed by a non government organisation named CHIRAG (Central Himalayan Rural Action Group). With the continuous efforts of this organisation, tourism has improved in this region.

    Mukteshwar Inspection Bunglow

    Mukteshwar Inspection Bungalow is a major tourist attraction of the hill station and is located close to the Mukteshwar Temple. It is an inspection bungalow of the Public Works Department (PWD). Earlier, this building was managed by the Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam and was known as the KMVN Rest-house.

    According to records, the eminent British hunter and naturalist Jim Corbett spent a considerable amount of time here, strategising plans to kill tigers. Tourists visiting this place for a day or two can avail lodging facilities in this bungalow.

    Chauthi Jaali

    Chauthi Jaali or Chauli ki Jaali is a famous tourist site located adjacent to the Mukteshwar Temple. Nestled on a hilltop, this site offers picturesque views of the Kumaon Valley and the Himalayan ranges. According to a legend, this is the same site where a demon and a goddess fought a battle. The evidence of the battle, such as a shield, an elephant's trunk and faint outlines of a sword, can still be seen at this place.

    A legend is associated with the natural pattern of the rock here. It is believed that if a barren woman succeeds in taking her head out of the lattice, then she is blessed with a baby.

    According to another legend, a group of devotees got stuck at this place due to a huge rock, during their Kailash-Mansarovar yatra. They prayed to Lord Shiva to help them, and the lord instructed the guru to strike the rock four times. When the guru hit the rock the fourth time a hole appeared on the surface of the rock.
