A recently excavated site Swastik Vihar has a Buddhist structure. The Buddhist monks used to practice meditation here.
The Chandi temple in Guchhapali village is situated 40 km away from Mahasamund. During the month of Chaitra, the festival of Navratri is celebrated here. A fair is also held during this time. There is a large idol of Chandi Devi in the temple.
The famous Chandi temple is situated in the Birkoni village and is dedicated to Goddess Chandi Devi. It is located on National Highway No. 6. Navratri is the main festival celebrated here and thousands of devotees come here to worship the goddess. It is a renowned religious centre in Mahasamund.
Sweth Ganga is situated in the village of Bhamhini which is 10 km from Mahasamund. A spring of water constantly flows from the pit into the river. A temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is situated nearby and is quite old.
A fair is held here during the month of Shravan, and a large number of devotees come here to take water from the spring to offer on the Shiva Lingam at Gandeshwar Mahadev temple. The groups of devotees are known as Kanwariyas.
Situated amidst the hilly forest areas of the Khallari village, the temple is dedicated to Goddess Khallarimatha. During the time of Navratri, devotees come to worship here. An annual fair is also held here in the month of Chaitra. According to legends, the Pandavas had visited here and there is an impression of Bhim’s foot here that can be seen on the hills.
Ghaudhara is situated in a village called Daldali. It is a constant flow of water and a Shiva temple is also located there. People visit here in a large number during the Poush mela. The area is covered with green forests.
