The Pratapgarh Fort is a major tourist attraction in Mahabaleshwar. Established in 1856, the uber famous fort rings a familiar name. About 20 km away from Mahabaleshwar, this fort was constructed following Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaja’s orders.

Replete with trap doors and large chambers, this place is significant as Afzal Khan’s death. It houses Khan’s tomb as well as the famous Bhavani temple. There is also a Shiv Temple in the vicinity.

From a distance, the fort resembles a high, round hill. It is situated at a height of about a 1000 m above sea level.
