    Kurnool Fort Or Konda Reddy Buruju

    Kurnool Fort, also known as Konda Reddy Buruju is one of the most prominent landmarks of the Kurnool city. Built by Achyuta Devarayalu of the Vijaynagar Empire, the fort is located in the centre of the city and is a major tourist attraction. The only part left of the splendid architectural structure is the Konda Reddy Buruju.

    In the very prison of this fort, Konda Reddy took his last breath; hence, the tower was dedicated to his name. Although the fort is largely in ruins, some of the ruined portions are still standing strong. One of them is the Erra Buruju.

    Two small ancient temples are located at the foot of this Buruju. The temples are dedicated to Goddess Yellamma. It is believed that there are hidden treasures in this Buruju. Many a failed attempts have been made to discover this treasure. There are also many amusing inscriptions and carvings in this fort.

    Kurnool Museum

    The Kurnool Museum has been constructed by the Archaeological Survey of India. Kurnool region is full of historical and archaeological significance with numerous artefacts dug out from Kurnool. Keeping this in mind, the Museum was constructed.

    The Museum is located near the Handri river, next to the Medical college of Kurnool. Artefacts of broken sculptures from the temples in the vicinity, such as Sangameshwaram, Alampur and Srisailam are seen here. Weapons used by the local chieftains are preserved in the museum. The museum is close to the Kotla Vijay Bhaskar Reddy Memorial.

    Jagannatha Gattu Temple is a popular tourist site of Kurnool. It is famous for its Lord Shiva Temple and is located in B. Thandrapadu, in Kurnool. The history behind the Linga makes it a popular destination.

    Legends say that the Shivalinga in the temple was bought by the Pandava Prince, Bheema. The Shivalinga is made of granite stone. The height of the Shivalinga is 6 ft, and the width is 2 ft.

    Shirdi Sai Baba Temple

    The Shirdi Sai Baba Temple, which was constructed 70 years back, is a unique site. It is one of the biggest Sai Baba temples, spread across an area of 1.5 acres. The temple was constructed by a washer man on the banks of the river Tungabhadra. It is shaped like a star.

    Prayers are offered to the Baba every morning and evening and Arti is conducted. Devotees from far and wide come to be a part of the Arti. The temple also houses the idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Hanuman within it. The atmosphere of the temple is cool and serene.

    Although the temple can be visited at all times, the best time to visit is in the morning and evening when the prayers are conducted and the breeze from the river makes the place extremely pleasant. One can also meditate in the huge meditation hall with a capacity of around 800 people. The temple is located very close to the Konda Reddy Buruju; hence, it is easily accessible as well.

    Nallamala Forest

    Nallamala Forest is one of the largest undisturbed stretches of forest in South India. It is located in the Nallamala Hill which is a part of the Eastern Ghats. It is spread over 5 districts, namely Kurnool, Guntur, Kadapa, Mahabubnagar and Prakasam.

    The famous wildlife writer, Kenneth Anderson wrote about his adventures in this forest. The forest has a good tiger population, and a part of the forest belongs to the Nagarjunsagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve. One can often see leopards in these forests.
