Kufri Tourism - The Snowy Crown Of Shimla

Kufri, located at an altitude of 2743 m, is a small town at a distance of around 13 km from Shimla. This place got its name from the word ‘kufr’, which means ‘lake’ in the local language. This place witness tourists all round the year, owing to the many attractions associated with it.

Mahasu Peak, Great Himalayan Nature Park, and Fagu are some of the prominent tourist spots in Kufri. Great Himalayan Nature Park houses over 180 species of birds and animals. Fagu, situated 6 km away from Kufri, is a popular destination among peace lovers. Surrounded by picturesque mountain ranges, this destination is also a popular religious site. Few temples are located nearby which are admired for their wood carvings.

How to reach Kufri

The nearest air base from Kufri is the Jubbarhatti Airport in Shimla, which is 22 km away. The airport is connected to all the major cities via regular flights. Kufri is connected to Shimla by a narrow gauge rail route while Kalka, located at a distance of 100 km from Kufri, connects Shimla to all the major cities of India. Tourists who wish to travel by road can avail direct buses from Shimla, Nartanda, and Ranpur. Both, state transport buses and private deluxe buses are easily available from Shimla to Kufri.

The region of Kufri experiences temperate climate during summers, which extends between the months of April and June. The temperature of the place ranges between 12° C and 19° C during this season. Kufri receives scanty rainfall during the monsoon season and the temperature may drop to as low as 10° C. Winters are extremely cold, and temperatures can fall below 0˚ C during this season. The period between March and November is considered ideal for visiting this place.
