Gauri Kunj is a dedicated memorial constructed in honour of the popular playback singer Kishore Kumar Ganguly. A special bond between Kishore Kumar Gangopadhyay and Khandwa is traced as it is the birthplace of this legendary singer.
The foundation stone was laid by the late singer’s elder brother, actor Ashok Kumar. Though the memorial is dedicated to Kishore Kumar, the name of the auditorium is derived from his parents Gauridevi and Kunjilal Gangopadhyay.
Gauri Kunj was inaugurated by the heartthrob of yesterday’s Rajesh Khanna in 1998. This place serves as a platform for all forms of arts and cultural activities. The Government of Madhya Pardesh and the local Municipal Corporation manages Gauri Kunj.
It is situated near to the railway station, a five-minutes-walk from the station towards the town will land you at Gauri Kunj. If you are a fan of music and other cultural events, you must attend one of the programmes held here.
