Guptkashi, Kedarnath

Guptkashi is a tourist destination, which is renowned for an age-old Vishwanath Temple, Manikarnik Kund and Ardhnareswar Temple. The Ardhnareshwar Temple enshrines the idol of Lord Shiva in the form of half man and half woman. The Vishwanath Temple is counted amongst one of the many incarnations of Hindu Lord Shiva. According to a folklore, this is the same destination where Hindu Lord Shiva hid himself for a period of time. Lord Shiva also hid in Kedarnath in the form of a bull. Lord Shiva, in an attempt to avoid the encounter with the Pandavas, dived in the ground.

The hump of the bull remained on the surface, the arm of the Lord was found in Tungnath, face in Rudranath, nabhi or belly button in Madmaheshwar and the head was found in Kalpeshwar. All these places became noted pilgrimage centres in the later years. Some of the nearby attractions include Gandhi Sarovar situated at a distance of 2 km and Vasuki Tal, which is just 8 km from Kedarnath.
