Karnala - A Historic Background

During the rule of the Tughlaqs, Karnala served as a capital to the Konkan districts post which it was taken over by Nizam Shah – the founder of Ahmednagar. The Karnala Fort is a gift to the Nizami ruler in view of the friendship he enjoyed with the Portuguese then. Not long after, the East India Company established British rule in this region, as they realized the strategic importance of Karnala’s geographical placement.
