Elgin Silver Oaks,Kalimpong
Elgin Silver Oaks is a luxurious hotel in Kalimpong that that stands as a testament of the old colonial influence on the small hill station. The property belonged to two people at different times, and their influence is still felt around the grounds.
It was much later (in the 1980s) converted into a boutique hotel by Diamond Oberoi, the property’s third owner. Elgin Silver Oaks first belonged to a famous British jute magnate who only built the ground floor in the 1930s.
Later he sold it to a prominent architect Frederick Desraj who was responsible for building the old Teesta bridge. As extra floors were added to the original structure, nothing of the old style was forgotten. In fact the new floors with their wide windows and spacious rooms only added glory to the house.
As a boutique hotel, it is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after and heavenly places to be in Kalimpong. The landscaped gardens teeming with exotic flowers, the quaint gazebos where sipping a cup of Darjeeling tea tastes refreshingly better - makes this quite an heaven on earth.
The interiors of the hotel have been decked with lithographs of old masters, period furniture, handpicked publications in the bookshelves and a bar to lift the spirit. There is also an old-style piano whose soft tunes lulls ones to tranquility.

The Tea Lounge and Oak Bar – The tea lounge is located in the lobby which also houses the Oak Bar. A visit to the sub-Himalayas is quite incomplete without sipping the famous Darjeeling tea.
