Baduli Pukahuri, Jorhat

Baduli Pukahuri, also pronounced as Baduli Pukhuri, was built during the reign of King Jayadhvaj Sinha. It is a tank that was constructed by an Ahom general named Baduli Borphukan. The tank or pakahuri is named after this Ahom general.

The tank was built after excavating a large piece of land. The tank lies very close to the Trunk Road at Teok. Teok is located at the eastern end of the Jorhat town. A pukhuri is an Assamese word meaning a water reservoir or a pond. Pakhuris are very common in Assam and have been there for centuries.

Pukhuris were built as reservoirs to store water so that there would be no water shortage in the winter and summer seasons. Baduli Pukahuri is well connected to the rest of the city and tourists can easily get taxis, auto rickshaws and buses to reach the tourist attraction.
