  • 01Vishnu Mandir

    Vishnu Mandir

    Established by the emperors of the Hayhay Vansh, the temple can be found close to the Bhima Talab of the Purani Basti at Janjgir. Said to have been constructed during the 12th century, this temple was initially being built in two parts, but both parts were not completed at the same time, leading to the existence of two separate temple structures which are incomplete even to this day.

    The temple bears beautiful sculptures of male and female deities, along with demi-gods, known as the Gandharavas and the Kinners, which prove to be a delight to the visitors. The temple is locally renowned as the Nakata Mandir.

  • 02Shivarinarayan Temple

    There is a temple known as the Laxminarayan Temple, in the town of Shivrinarayan of Janjgir. Situated on the banks of the river Mahanadi, this shrine is said to be built by the rulers of Hayhay Vansh during the 11th century. Moreover, legend says that the Aashrama of Shabri, who was a devotee of Lord Rama in the Ramayana, is found here.

    The Laxminarayan Temple has admirable architecture that reflects the Vaishanav Shaili. On the occasion of Magh Purnima, a celebration happens at this temple.
