Tilwara Ghat holds immense significance in the history of Jabalpur. Tilwara Ghat is located at the bank of river Narmada, and it is this place where the mortal ashes of Mahatma Gandhi were immersed after his death and a Gandhi Smarak was built to commemorate that event. Mahatma Gandhi during his fight for independence stayed in Jabalpur three times and has visited this Ghat religiously.
This place is considered as holy as River Ganga and lakhs of people take dip at this very Ghat every year. Tilwara Ghat is also the place where Lokmanya Tilak addressed a huge public rally in 1939 and from then onwards the ground is known as Tilak Bhoomi. Apart from this, this place also saw many stalwarts from the field of politics who visited this place and made this place important.
