Horanadu Tourism - A Place Blessed by Nature
Horanadu's main claim to fame is the stunning Goddess Annapoorneshwari temple. However, for those who love to see nature in all her pristine glory, a visit to Horanadu could satiate the senses. This verdant, green town is located in the picturesque Malnad, 100 kilometers south of Chickmagalur. The area is covered by dense forests and fertile valley giving Horanadu a truly wonderful setting.
The Legend Behind the Temple
Of course, other than the natural beauty, the main reason to visit this sleepy little town would be the ancient temple of Annapoorneshwari. The deity is made of gold and pilgrims who pray here believe that they will never ever face a deficit of food in their lives. Legend has it that when Lord Shiva was once cursed, it was the Goddess' blessing that resulted in the curse being reversed. The temple is also famous because every visitor here is given food and a place to sleep.

A visit to Horandu can be combined with visits to nearby temples. Sringeri is just 75 kilometers away. Other interesting places to be visit en route to Horanadu would include Dharmasthala and the Udupi Krishna temple.

Horanadu lies 330 kilometers from Bangalore. The nearest railway station is Shimoga, and the town is well connected by the state and local bus services. Mangalore is the nearest airport.
