Kaun Haara Ghat, Hajipur

Kaun Haara Ghat enjoys the status of being one of the key ghats of Ganga-Gandak rivers, where many Hindu rituals and cremation rites have been performed for centuries. The name of the ghat can be accorded to an ancient legend that illustrates a fight which took place between Gaja (elephant) and Graah (crocodile) in which Lord Vishnu had to interfere in order to save the life of Gajraj, his devotee.

This episode has a huge cultural relevance and its manifestations can be seen in the emblem of the city and at the dome of the railway station of Hajipur including many other noteworthy places. Infact, the city derives its name “Kaun Hara” from this classical fight.
