Chattris of Scindia Dynasty, Gwalior


The Chattris of Scindia Dynasty is placed in the outskirts of Gwalior city. The Chhatris of Jivaji Rao Scindia, Daulat Rao Scindia and isJanko ji Rao Scindia are important monuments. Scindias were the Maratha clan rulers of Gwalior after the Mugals. The Chattris of Scindias are at Shiva Puri. Shiva Puri means the city of Lord Shiva.

It is also an important place of worship for Hindus with a lot of temples. The place was developed during the time of Scindia dynasty. The Chattris of Scindia dynasty are best examples of medieval Hindu architecture. It is situated at Amarkantak a few kilometers away from Gwalior city. Chhatris basically means royal tombs.
