Panchama, Ganjam

Panchama is located 37 km from Chhatrapur in Ganjam. The place earns its name from the famous Sidhha Binayak Temple. The temple enshrines the idol of Lord Ganesh who is worshipped in the grove of one Peepal tree.

According to legends the Ganesh image was unearthed by Gajapati king Purushhottam between the Peepal and Banyan trees when he was about to venture for his conquest of Kanchi. Since then, the place has become a religious centre and the Siddha Binayak Temple was built around the Peepal tree enshrining the idol inside.

One can see the tree still standing with all its glory holding the other small images of Lord Ganesha. Along with Lord Ganesha, four other deities, namely Vaskara, Shiva, Narayana and Durga are installed inside the temple. A small flower garden enhances the beauty of the place. All rituals and festivals of Ganapataya are celebrated here with huge pomp and gaiety since ages.
