Jaugada, Ganjam

Jaugada is located 35 km from Behrampur. The place is famous for housing the ruins of an ancient fort believed to be of the Mauryan Age. Several stone-cut edicts belonging to the Mauryan Age are located here. Jaugada is situated on the bank of the river Rushikulya and hence it has got a huge collection of evidences belonging to Rushikulya Valley Civilization.

The fort seems to be rectangular in shape which is quiet evident from the ruins located around the place. The walls and towers of the fort were made of mud whose remnants can still be found here. Several inscriptions found on the stone carvings have attracted attention of the Archaeological Survey of India.

One famous temple named Kaleswar and Rameswar lies close to the site. The temple is unique in the sense that the deities of the temple are Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu who can rarely be seen together at one place.
