    Panchama

    Panchama is located 37 km from Chhatrapur in Ganjam. The place earns its name from the famous Sidhha Binayak Temple. The temple enshrines the idol of Lord Ganesh who is worshipped in the grove of one Peepal tree.

    According to legends the Ganesh image was unearthed by Gajapati king Purushhottam between the Peepal and Banyan trees when he was about to venture for his conquest of Kanchi. Since then, the place has become a religious centre and the Siddha Binayak Temple was built around the Peepal tree enshrining the idol inside.

    One can see the tree still standing with all its glory holding the other small images of Lord Ganesha. Along with Lord Ganesha, four other deities, namely Vaskara, Shiva, Narayana and Durga are installed inside the temple. A small flower garden enhances the beauty of the place. All rituals and festivals of Ganapataya are celebrated here with huge pomp and gaiety since ages.

    Aryapalli

    Aryapalli is a beach located at a distance of 6 km from Chhatarpur, the district headquarter of Ganjam. The Aryappalli Beach is known for its invigorating weather that magnetises the tourists from all over the world. The Casuarina trees that have thickly crowded its shores somehow render a delightful sight.

    Athagadapatna

    Athagadapatna is located 37 km from Chhatrapur. Athagadapatna is rich in huge historic memoirs. It is the birth place of great poets Kabisuriya Baldev Rath and Kabi Jadumani Mahapatra. It is believed that once the king of Athagadapatna had provided shelter to Gajapati king of Puri and had hidden the idol of Lord Jagganath to save them from the attack of Kalapahad.

    Thereby, during his reign, the Lord Jagganath Temple was built along with a few other temples clustering altogether amidst towering mountains and mystic forests. Soon after the attack, the idol was shifted to its original place in Puri and here in Athagadapatna the temple was vacated.

    Till date, the temple remains empty. All the festivals related to Lord Jagganath are celebrated with huge pomp and fervour in this deity-less Temple. The place can still be viewed in its real and unspoiled picture. The marvellous beauty of this temple is the major tourist attraction of this place.

    Bhetanai is located at a distance of 56 km from Chhatrapur. The place is hugely famous for the high population of a rare species known as Black Buck. These antilopes are the main attraction of the place. Bhetanai is mainly a land of fertile soil where the villagers cultivate a wide variety of crops.

    These antilopes called Black Buck descend from the hills and dense forests from the surrounding areas in search for food. They can be seen in abundance near the cultivated crops of the area. Bhetanai is 10 km away from Pakidi Hills.

    Mahuri Kalua Temple

    Mahuri Kalua Temple is located 37 km away from Chhatrapur and 15 km away from Behrampur. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Mahuri Kalua which is believed to be worshipped by the King of Mahuri.

    According to folklore, the deity was earlier established inside a cave where only the king could reach and which was beyond the reach of any local people. The Goddess once gifted the King a sword which saved him from all dangers. But then one day the sword was lost and the king was defeated by Britishers.

    Henceforth, the deity was established on the foothills inside the temple which can be seen today. The temple is situated amidst dense forest that has crept all around the undulating hills. A flight of steps has been made on the body of the hill to aid the visitors to reach the cave where the deity was earlier established. The place has become a favourite picnic spot for tourists.

    Nirmaljhar is located at a distance of 37 km from Ganjam. The place is famous for its temple complex which comprises of temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Lord Jagganath, Goddess Vimala, Radha Krishna, Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha and Sun God.

    The perennial stream that descends from the Badaghati Mountain collects itself at some places to form a pool of crystal clear water, thereby rendering the name of the place as Nirmaljhar which means ‘pure water’.

    Goddess Vimala is the presiding deity of Nirmaljhar. One can marvel at the high-quality workmanship done on the walls of the temple of Lord Vishnu whereas the other temples bear the sculptures and carvings which depict the tales from the Mahabharata.

    Visitors generally visit this place during summer to take bath in the serene and cold water of the pool. The Khallikote King’s palace along with two other temples named Sankleswar and Jhadeswar are also located nearby.

    Ujjaleswar

    Ujjaleswar is located at a distance of 45 km from Behrampur in Ganjam. The Ujjaleswar shrine has naturally developed out of a cave on a hillock. Several steps have been built cutting the stones of the hill to reach the shrine. A huge stone that dramatically shadows the deity forms the backside of the temple.

    Even this stone has been chiselled out to form steps to enable the devotees to take a view around the temple. The tranquil locality gives a feeling of rejuvenation and solace to whoever visits this place.

    Before reaching here, one has to pass through the Ghodahada Dam. The Ghodahada Dam has submerged a fort named Vijayanagara and its temple. The silence around this place is often broken by the herd of elephants, pythons and crocodiles that come here to quench their thirst. One can view these innate denizens by standing above the dam and experience the sight of exquisite wildlife.
