  • 01Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib

    Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib, situated on the Sirhind-Morinda Road, is an important religious venue for Sikhs. It is believed that in the year 1704, Sahibzada Fateh Singh and Sahibzada Zorawar Singh, sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, were bricked alive as per the order of Wazir Khan, the Faujdar of Sirhind.

    This Gurudwara was built to commemorate their sacrifice. The inner complex of the Gurudwara houses many famous structures, such as Gurudwara Bhora Sahib, Gurudwara Burj Mata Gujri, Gurudwara Shahid Ganj, Todar Mal Jain Hall and Sarovar.

    The entrance gate is constructed using white stones and leads to a white marble pathway. The main building of the Gurudwara boasts of typical Sikh architecture with white stone structures and golden domes.

    The annual festival of Shaheedi Jor Mela is celebrated in the month of December to commemorate the sacrifice of these martyrs. The serenity and peacefulness rubs on to tourists and provides them a chance to view a truly historic site.

  • 02Gurudwara Jyoti Sarup

    Gurudwara Jyoti Sarup

    Gurudwara Jyoti Sarup is located on the Sirhind-Chandigarh road and is about a kilometre away from Fatehgarh Sahib. It commemorates the cremation of mother of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Mata Gujri, along with his two younger sons, Sahibzada Fateh Singh and Sahibzada Zorawar Singh.

    It is believed that due to the fear of Wazir Khan, Faujdar of Sirhind, nobody was giving land for the cremation of these martyrs. Following this, Todar Mall, an ardent follower of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, bought a small piece of land from a farmer for their last rites. The white structures and domes are highlights of the Gurudwara.

  • 03Sanghol

    Sanghol is famous for its archaeological museum, which has relics and artefacts of the Indus Valley Civilisation. Known as the Uchha Pind Sanghol, it is 18.9 km away from Fatehgarh Sahib. It takes around 28 min to reach this site by road. Coins and seals belonging to Toramana and Mihirakula, rulers from Central Asia, have been found here.

    A Buddhist stupa was discovered in the year 1968 at this place. Around 117 stone structures belonging to the Mathura school of art from 1st and 2nd century AD were excavated from this site in the year 1985. The Sanghol museum displays a high number of remains and relics that belong to the Harappan civilisation.

    The museum, with more than 15,000 artefacts, is popular among historians and art lovers. On the main road tourists may also be interested in a Buddhist stupa and a monastery complex of the 1st and 2nd century AD.

    Gurudwara Shaheed Ganj

    Gurudwara Shaheed Ganj is situated inside the main area of the Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib. This Gurudwara was built to commemorate the cremation of 6000 Sikhs who were killed in the battle against Muslims. It is believed that the main structure of the Gurudwara stands on the same ground that was used by Baba Banda Singh Ji Bahadur for the cremation.

    The small white structure of the Gurudwara looks serene against the backdrop of Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib. Travellers visit Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib to pay their homage to the martyred heroes. It is said that this Gurudwara was built during the reign of Shah Jahan.

  • 05Aam Khas Bagh

    Aam Khas Bagh

    Aam Khas Bagh is remnant of the highway inn built by the famous Mughal emperor Babur. Later, it was renovated by Shah Jahan as many royals stayed here, on their way to Lahore. Sarad Khana, an air conditioning system in the Aam Khas complex is noteworthy of mention.

    The Daulat-Khana-E-Khas or the Sheesh Mahal, a monument in the complex once boasted of decorated walls, minarets, tanks and fountains and domes with beautiful glazed tiles. The Hamam is also skilfully engineered with special terracotta channels in the underground for heating water.

    Every year, at the time of Shaheedi Jor Mela, a light and sound play called Sirhind Di Deewar is organised here. This show is a must-watch for tourists as it depicts the history of the Sikh martyrdom in an engaging manner.

    Sant Namdev Temple

    Sant Namdev Temple is situated in Bassi Pathana, which is 6 km away from the town of Fatehgarh Sahib. Dedicated to Sant Namdev, this temple has a strong religious following in the area. Sant Namdev lived in Maharashtra and came to Punjab during one of his trips. This place was previously known as Swami Namdev Ji Ka Dera.

    The present day structure of the temple was built in the year 1925. Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of Sikhs, has included 61 of his holy hymns in it. This temple attracts a lot of devotees every year, especially during the three-day fair at the time of Basant Panchami.

    Mata Chakreshwari Devi Jain Temple

    Mata Chakreshwari Devi Jain Temple is located on the Sirhind-Chandigarh road, in a village called Attewali. The legend of Mata Chakreshwari Devi dates back to the era of Raja Prithvi Raj Chauhan. It is a popular belief that some pilgrims were travelling to the Jain temple in bullock carts and on the way, they bought a Mata Chakreshwari Devi idol, who was an ardent follower of Lord Adinath.

    After halting for the night, when the pilgrims tried to move the cart in which the idol of Mata was kept, it did not move. Suddenly a voice from the sky announced “Let this be my place of Abode”. Strangely, in the middle of the barren land, a water fountain emerged. Every year on the fourth day after Dusshera, a religious function is held here, which is attended by numerous devotees.

    Rauza Sharif is regarded as the second Mecca for Sunni Muslims. Situated on the Sirhind-Bassi Pathana Road, this place is dedicated to Shaikh Ahmad Faruqi Sirhindi, who lived here between 1563 and 1624.

    The Urs of Shaikh Ahmad Sirhindi (death anniversary) attracts a lot of Muslims from all over the world. This place features several tombs belonging to the family members of the Shaikh. Apart from this, it also has tombs of the Afghan ruler Shah Zaman and his Queen.

    This place with beautiful arches and domes has been declared as a historic monument by the Government of India. Tomb of Ustad and Shagird and Tomb of Mir-I-Miran are other nearby tombs which travellers may be interested in.

    Haveli Todar Mal

    Haveli Todar Mal is situated within the premises of Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib. This place was built in the 17th century and is also known as Jahaz Haveli or Jahaz Mahal. Todar Mal was the Diwan in the court of Nawab Wazir Khan, the ruler of Sirhind during the reign of the Mughals. He was an ardent follower of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and is believed to have bought a land for cremation of Guru Ji's sons and mother.

    Made of Sirhindi bricks, the whole haveli is decorated with various fountains and pools. The architectural brilliance of this palace is depicted in every single structure. There is a huge reception area to receive guests and meet people.

    Though some paintings have been lost, the remaining ones exhibit the exceptional artistry of the medieval ages. The attraction is also popularly known as Talanian Maqbaras and bears resemblance to Humayun's Tomb in New Delhi.

    Mosque of Sadhana Kasai has been declared a historical structure by the Archaeological Survey of India. This mosque is dedicated to Bhagat Sadhana, who is popularly known as Sadhana Kasai (Qasai).

    Tombs Of Nabis At Bras

    Tombs of Nabis at Bras are dedicated to the Nabis, favourites of Allah. Excavations conducted on this site yielded 11 human skeletons that were believed to be of the Nabis. Subsequently, 11 tombs were constructed on a raised platform and locals who revere the Nabis, do not sleep in the upper portion of their houses (as it is a raised portion).

    It is also believed that this is the same place where Sheikh Ahmad Faruqui Sirhindi Muzdad Alafsani imparted knowledge to local villagers.
