Kesariya, East Champaran

3

Kesariya is situated on the eastern banks of the river Gandak and beholds the huge 104-feet-tall stupa, which is considered the tallest Buddhist stupa. Accordingly, Kesariya commands prominent positions in East Champaran tourism as well as history of Buddhism.

The stupa was discovered in the year 1998 and is one foot taller than the famous Borobudur Stupa in Java, which is a World Heritage Monument. The story of the begging bowl and many other recorded events in the Jataka Katha elaborate the legends of the place.
