The Elgin,Darjeeling
The Elgin is a lavish 125 year old property in Darjeeling with the interiors and exteriors reminding you of the Colonial era. This erstwhile Summer Palace of the King of Cooch Behar, this heritage hotel treats its guest in royal style and grandeur. It was built in 1887 around a beautiful garden.
The rooms offer splendid views of the mountains and valleys. It serves as the perfect base for one to explore the mountain scenery, pristine forests and ancient monasteries. Elgin is an important part of Darjeeling's colonial history and the whole building has been restored to its original grandeur with period Burma teak furniture, oak floor boards and paneling, crackling fireplaces, candle-lit tables and strains of music from the grand piano.
Each and every corner of the hotel as a story to tell and has hosted royals, celebrities, ambassadors since it was converted into a commercial property in the 1950s. Though a Colonial property it has been refurbished with modern amenities keeping in mind the needs of the 21st century travellers and offers them a memorable stay.
