Pitchavaram Lake, Cuddalore

The Pitchavaram Lake is located at a distance of about 14 km from Chidambaram. The Pitchavaram Lake is sprawling with mangrove. The mangrove forest found in this lake is one of the largest in the world. There are numerous islands interspersed in the water which is home to hundreds of species of birds that include local as well as migratory.

Some of them are watersnips, herons, pelicans, cormorants and egrets among many others. These forests attract bird watchers from all over the world, especially between the months of September to April and November to January.

There is also boating facilities available in the Pitchavaram Lake which has added to the attractiveness of the place. The best time to visit the Lake is in the morning to watch the sunrise.
