Jamia Masjid, Chitradurga

Jamia Masjid, also known as Jama Masjid and Sultan-e-Jama Masjid, is one of the prime religious centres in Chitradurga. It is located in the Chikpet area, and was constructed by Tipu Sultan. The mosque is believed to have been built by Tipu using Indo-Saracen architecture, which also throws light on Tipu's respect for all religions.

There are several other monuments that Tipu has built blending Hindu and Islamic architectural styles. The mosque has two tall minarets. There are 13 rows inside and in each row, up to 50 people could offer prayers.

A visit to this mosque will give you an insight into Tipu's Sultan's secular ideas and how beautifully he has maintained the features of both Indian and Arabic architectures, making the mosque a beautiful wonder.
