Express Avenue Mall

Express Avenue Mall is a shopping complex located in Chennai in the state of Tamil Nadu. This famous shopping mall has been built by Express Infrastructure that is a sub section of The Indian Express. In fact, the mall is built on a part of The Indian Express Estate. The specialty of the mall is a gaming arcade that is believed to be the largest such arcade in the whole of south India.

The mall houses many international brands of clothing along with a toy store by Hamleys. There is a Fun City section as well that is dedicated to children. It has gaming facilities along with bumper car rides and carousal. The mall also has famous eating joints like Pizza Hut and KFC. Apart from these there is a Food Court as well that provides multi-cuisine dishes.

The mall is also home to Sathyam Cinemas that is an eight-screen multiplex.

Spencer Plaza

Spencer Plaza is a shopping mall in Chennai and is located on the Anna Salai Road. This mall was the first of its kind to be built in Chennai and is, therefore, considered an important landmark literally as well as figuratively in the history of Chennai. The present day mall stands on the place of yesteryear's Spencer Plaza that was commissioned by Charles Durant and J.W. Spencer in the year 1863-64.

The Anna Salai Road was then known as Mount Road. The Plaza was renovated in 1985 and is the oldest shopping mall in the country. During the 1980s the mall was the largest shopping mall in the whole of South Asia. Today, the mall is house to some leading clothing brands like Westside.

Many international brands like Nike, Adidas, Van Heusen, Allen Solly, Proline, Louis Philippe, Levi’s, Swatch, Florshaim shoes, Pantaloons and more are located at Spencer Plaza. The mall provides Banking as well as ATM facilities.

The City Centre

The City Centre mall in Chennai is located in the Mylapore area. It started its operation in 2006 and is believed to be the most expensive place for shopping in Chennai. Some of the major brands, both Indian as well as international, are housed under one roof at the City Centre Mall.

The brands include Health and Glow (beauty and cosmetic store), Lilliput (children’s clothes and toys), Landmark (Book store), Allen Solly, Adidas, Mochi (footwear), Wills Lifestyle (clothing), Van Heusen (men’s shirts and trousers) and Lifestyle. Besides these, there are also exclusive confectionery stores as well as toys department.

INOX theatre is the main attraction of the mall and remains fully occupied during both weekends as well as weekdays. The mall has a food court as well as famous eating outlets KFC, Pizza Hut, Copper Chimney, Subway, Gangotree and Arabian Hut. There is an exclusive gaming zone for children and adults alike.

Gold Mall

Gold Mall or the Gold Souk Grande Mall is in Chennai. It is located near the Crescent Engineering College and houses the best of Indian as well as international brands. Most of the shops in Gold Mall are exclusive high-end brands. The mall is a part of the Aerens Gold Souk Group and has the main outlet in Gurgaon, Haryana.

The Gold Mall in Chennai has a hyper market, clothing departments, stores for branded watches, multiplex and exclusive jewellery stores. International brands include Tissot, Rado, Citizen, Carbon, Woodland, Levis, Lucera, John Players, Navigator, Reebok, Liliput, Omega, Tag Heur, Longines, Adora and Mont Blanc.

Indian brands that feature at the mall are Kiah, Nirvana, Sangini, Reid and Taylor, Cygnus, Galaxy, Nakshatra, Times Watches, Manyavar, Sultan Jewellery, Vummiddi Bangaru Srihari Sons, Zimson Watches, Malabar Gold, LKS Gold House, Revathy Jewelers and Cr Jewellery, to name a few. Besides these there is also a Pantaloons store at the mall.

Alsa Mall

Alsa Mall is also located in Chennai on the Montieth Road that is next to Egmore. The mall was established in the 1980s around the same time as the renovation of the Spencer Plaza. The Alsa Mall is the oldest mall in Chennai after the Spencer Plaza.

Fashion Street

Fashion Street or Cotton Street is the best place for doing budget shopping in Chennai. In fact, the place has more shoppers than any of the malls in Chennai. The place is only a long lane that is filled with vendors on both sides. The vendors sell their various products at very reasonable prices. Therefore, the place is very popular among college going boys and girls.

The clothes that you pick from the Fashion Street are not only reasonably priced but are also exclusive and in keeping with the fashion of the times. You will find readymade clothes as well as fabrics at very cheap rates. However, bargaining is a must or the vendors will take you for a ride, especially if you are a tourist.

Although the vendors set up their wares by 11 in the morning, the place sees increase in activity only after 2 p.m. The shops at Fashion Street do not close before 8 p.m. The place is open on all the days, including on public holidays.
