Nestled at an elevation of 2226 m above sea level, Chail is a beautiful hill station located on the Sadh Tiba Hill in the Solan District of Himachal Pradesh. Historically, Chail served as the summer capital for the erstwhile King of Patiala, Maharaja Adhiraj Bhupinder Singh, after his exile from Shimla, on the orders of Lord Kitchener. In retaliation, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh built the Chail Palace and chose Chail as his summer capital.

Tourist Places In And Around Chail

The Chail Palace, built in 1891, is a standing testimony of the royal heritage of Chail. Another popular tourist attraction of the destination is the Chail Wildlife Sanctuary that offers a rare opportunity to observe the indigenous flora and fauna of the region. Species found in the sanctuary include the Indian muntjac, leopard, crested porcupine, panther, wild boar, goral, sambar and European red deer.

The cricket and polo ground in Chail is located at an altitude of about 2444 m above sea level; it is one of the highest cricket venues in the world. These are presently under the administration of the Chail Military School.

The Gurudwara Sahib, the Kali ka Tibba and the Maharaja's Palace are other major tourist attractions of Chail. Considered as a paradise for hikers, the place is also ideal for trekking and fishing.

The ideal time to visit this beautiful hill station is during the summer season that starts from the month of March and lasts till May. Travellers can also plan a visit to Chail during winters because of favourable climatic conditions.
