According to a common belief, the beach was named after Sage Bindu, who legend says, undertook penance on the small hill of Ottinane located nearby. A sense of peace and tranquillity emanates from the beach, and thus tourists flock to it in large numbers to enjoy its serenity. It is therefore popular for travellers looking for silence and relaxation.

Another major attraction is the popular Kollur Sri Mookambika Temple, dedicated to the Hindu goddess Parvathi. The temple is believed to have been conceived by Hindu saint, Vedic scholar and supporter of the Adwaita philosophy, Adi Shankaracharya. Apart from this, the Byndoor Mountain, Murudeshwar, Maravanthe and Ottinane are some of the other famous places situated near Byndoor.
