Byndoor Tourism - Nestled Between Sun, Sands and Seas
Byndoor is famous for its beautiful beaches and the glorious sunset. Located in Kundapura, in the Udupi district of Karnataka, the little village is home to the Sri Someshwara temple. The temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is present right on the seashore, giving it a truly unique setting. The stunning sculptures as well as the lingam at the temple are worth seeing.
What to See and Do
The beach village of Byndoor has several legends associated with it. The place reportedly got its name from Saint Bindu who undertook a long and hard penance at Ottinene, a little hill close to the village. A climb to the top of Ottinene can provide a wonderful view of the sea, beach and the sunset.
Yet another popular tourist place at Byndoor is the Kollur Sri Mookambika temple. Maravanthe and Murudeshwar are close enough to visit. Murudeshwar has a temple surrounded on all three sides by the sea, while Maravanthe has a beach.
The weather at Byndoor is normally very pleasant, but the best months are from August to March when humidity levels dip.
Byndoor is easily accessible by train as it lies on the Konkan Railway line. The village is 480 kilometers from Bangalore, and private buses run at regular intervals from Bangalore and Mangalore to this beach village.
