    Bordi Beach

    The Bordi Beach, most often referred to as the Dahanu-Bordi Beach, lies in the village of Bordi and is adored for its pristine and tranquil panoramic beauty. Spanning over a 17 km stretch, the sea line extends from Dahanu all the way to Bordi and makes for a beautiful, breathtaking sight.

    The Bordi Beach is extremely safe for visitors. Swimming in the beach is permitted and devoid of any danger since up to almost half a kilometre, the water does not rise above waist level. It constitutes of sticky, black sand and chikoo orchard that lines the shore.

    The cause behind the beach’s popularity is its natural calm. It has not been artificially beautified, and its inherent natural beauty keeps making the visitors come back for more. The Maharashtra Woods Preservation Group is concerned with the maintenance and management of the beach.

  • 02Bahrot Caves

    Bahrot Caves

    The Bahrot Caves lie 20 km to the south of Sanjan and are situated at a small distance of about 8 km away from the village of Bordi. Nestled in the midst of the Bahrot Hills that are about 1,500 ft high in elevation, the Bahrot Caves are of immense significance and hold a great amount of religious importance for the Parsis.

    Legend has it that the brave and mighty Zoroastrian ancestors hid themselves and took refuge here in and around 1351 AD for thirteen long years – in order to protect themselves from the Muslim invaders. These ancestors blessed an Iranian Fire Temple within these hills, with the fire later being relocated to the Bahrot Caves.

    This holy fire went by the name – Iranshah Flame – and is believed to have been kept burning ever since that day. Tourists visiting this site can participate in a Jashan that is regularly performed to pay homage to the brave ancestors who gave up their lives to keep the flame burning incessantly.

    Kalpataru Botanical Garden

    The Kalpataru Botanical Garden is situated in Umbergaon, located about 10 km away from the village of Bordi. Kalpataru is credited to be a marine village that encompasses a botanical garden. This garden comprises of several different trees that surround the park area. The trees found here provide with an extensive green cover for the village.

    The monsoon season and the post monsoon season pose as the most apt time to pay a visit to this beautiful place. The surrounding area has a lush green appearance to it which relaxes the mind. The famous epic of Ramayana shown on TV was shot in this garden under the Vrindavan Studios set up nearby. The Park is preserved and maintained by the Dahanu Municipal Authorities.

    Depchari Dam And Reservoir

    The Depchari Dam is set on one of the biggest lakes in the village of Bordi. The dam acts as a reservoir and is dimensionally larger than the Asavli Dam. The dam area provides for a popular picnic spot with peaceful and salubrious surroundings.

    The trees in the backdrop offer a lush green cover to the area, showcasing the tourist spot as a lucrative attraction. Visitors generally come here along with their family to unwind from their stressful city lives, away from the maddening hustle bustle of the metros.

  • 05Asavli Dam

    Asavli Dam

    The Asavli Dam has an interesting architectural fact behind its origination. Found in the village of Bordi, this dam has been built in the same way – that is, manually – as the Great Pyramids of Egypt. The dimensions of the dam are an astonishing 1,160 feet long and about 78 feet high.

    It is flanked by lakes, greenery and mountains on one side, while the other side is replete with fields and a tiny little village. The Asavli Dam proves to be an excellent spot for a picnic. It offers a mesmerizing view of the lofty scenic mountains where the Bahrot Caves are located.

    The monsoon season makes for the best time to visit and explore this place given the lush greenery and the water gushing in full swell in the lakes. It is an ideal place to indulge in some secluded peace finding activity. There are several other water reservoirs and dams situated in the vicinity.

    Mallinath Jain Tirth Kosbad Temple

    The Mallinath Jain Tirth Kosbad Temple is the biggest and largest temple among the twenty four Tirthankaras – 24 religious prophet stations in the Jain religion. It is situated in the region of Prabhadevi, within the village of Bordi.

    According to Jainism, the Mallinath Jain Tirth Kosbad Temple is built in dedication to Lord Rishabh or Adinath. He was the first of the twenty four prophets revered and worshipped by Jain followers. Lord Mahavir – the founder of Jainism – is the twenty fourth prophet. The temple follows Jainism practices and is a wonder to watch.

  • 07Dahanu Fort

    Dahanu Fort

    The Dahanu Fort is situated about 24 km away from the village of Bordi and stands tall and mighty on the north bank of the river. Constructed out of cut stones, the walls of this fort rise to an elevation of 38 ft and are about 10 ft thick.

    Legend has it that under the leadership of a certain Chimaji Rao Appa, the Marathas had captured the fort in the month of January in 1739 AD. In around 1817 AD, the British usurped the Dahanu Fort under the ‘Treaty of Bassein’.

    It was later converted to a prison. The fort still is in an amazing condition and amazes all kinds of architecture and historic enthusiasts even today. The terrace of the fort, however, was destroyed in 1818. The Dahanu Fort serves as a major attraction for tourists visiting Bordi.

    Vrindavan Studios

    The Vrindavan Studios, situated in Umbergaon, is at a distance of about 10 km from the village of Bordi. The studio was set up in 1975 and is sprawled on a 4 acre campus. It encompasses three studios.

    This Studio is particularly popular for being the site for shooting the super-hit mythological series showcased on television – the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. The screenings of other mythology-based television serials like Raavan and Jai Hanuman were also held here.
