Bir is among the popular tourist destinations of the state of Himachal Pradesh. The major population of the town comprises refugees from the neighbouring country, Tibet. This place is popular for its various centres for spiritual studies such as the Deer Park Institute and the Dharmalaya Institute.

Further, travellers here can try their hands on another adventurous activity called hang-gliding. Introduced in 1980s, this sport is gaining popularity day by day. Since 1984, Bir has hosted three international and five national Hang-gliding events. The Himachal Pradesh Tourism Corporation or HTDC provides training courses for this sport every year.
Travellers can also visit the Chikling Gompa, the Bir Tea Factory, and the Tibetan Colony. The place is also an ideal location for nature lovers as they can go for nature walks here.
