Masjid Baba Dawood Khaki, Anantnag

Masjid Baba Dawood Khaki, built around 600 years ago, is counted amongst the oldest mosques of the town. It is situated in Anantnag’s Mohala Khaki Shaban at Reshi Bazaar. The Masjid was named after Hazrat Sheikh Baba Dawood Khaki, who was the noted scholar of the region. He followed Hazrat Sheikh Hamza Makhdoom Sahib and was considered as the main Qazi of the region.

Hazrat Sheikh Baba Dawood Khaki wanted to spread Islam in the region and, for that purpose, he established several mosques in the district of Anantnag, including Masjid Baba Dawood Khaki.

It is said that Saint Shah Hamdan from Iran came to this mosque when it was only a platform. The ground floor of the temple was constructed in 1397 A.D by Mir Muhammad Hamdani, who was the son of Saint Shah Hamdan. After this, Baba Dawood Khaki constructed 2nd and 3rd floors of the mosque in 1579 A.D and 1582 A.D, respectively. After spending nearly 10 years in Anantnag, Saint Khaki breathed his last in 1587 A.D.
