Agumbe, a small village of the Tirthahalli taluk (home of the great poet Kuvempu) comes under the Malnad region. It is famously known for the beautiful sunsets over the Arabian Sea that can be witnessed from the region. Known for its scenic and serene landscape, it receives the highest rainfall in southern India.

Thanks to the rainforest and the varied flora and fauna, it is home to the Agumbe Rainforest Research Station in India. Spread out over 3 sq km, Agumbe has a population of less than 500 people who mainly depend on the areca plantations and forest produce for living.
